The AULP Annual Conference 2025, held at the University of York, was a resounding success — bringing together over 100 university legal practitioners from across the UK and Ireland for three days of insightful discussion, professional development, and meaningful connection. Set against the beautiful backdrop of York’s historic city and the University’s green campus, the conference delivered a thought-provoking programme that reflected the strength and diversity of our sector. From expert-led sessions on emerging legal challenges to networking events and the celebration of achievements at the Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony, the 2025 Conference offered a rich and rewarding experience.
The conference involved a packed programme from the 25 - 27 June. Delegates explored a wide range of current legal and regulatory issues affecting the higher education sector, including:
The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024
OfS Condition E6: Harassment and Sexual Misconduct
Generative AI and legal risk in higher education
Data-sharing and safeguarding
The Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Act 2023
In addition to the main sessions, delegates took part in Special Interest Group meet-ups and enjoyed social events that fostered collaboration and built new connections across institutions.
A highlight of the conference was the AULP Awards Ceremony, held during the Gala Dinner in York city centre, which celebrated the outstanding work, innovation, and commitment of legal teams and individuals across the university sector. This year’s winners reflected the breadth of talent within in-house legal services, with awards recognising excellence in service delivery, contributions to diversity and inclusion, and team development. We extend our congratulations to all nominees and recipients for their achievements and dedication to the profession.
We extend our sincere thanks to all speakers, contributors, and attendees for making this year’s conference such a memorable occasion.
We look forward to welcoming you to the next AULP Annual Conference in 2026.
